Some divorces are easier than others. When both spouses agree on all issues, they may choose to go through an uncontested divorce. With the help of our Minnesota divorce attorneys, we can help guide you through an uncontested divorce so you can move on with your life in a quick, inexpensive way.
The Process of Uncontested Divorces
In an uncontested divorce, a lawyer cannot represent both spouses. However, many times only one spouse hires an attorney for filing paperwork correctly and making sure everything is done to the court’s satisfaction. Paperwork for an uncontested divorce includes a marital termination agreement, divorce petition and a divorce decree. The parties only need to sign the agreement to make it official. If you hire our divorce attorneys for your uncontested divorce, we only represent you, not your spouse.
Retainer Fee
If you do not have children and are filing an uncontested divorce, we typically charge about $2,000 as a retainer. If you have children, the case is a little more complicated so we charge a retainer of $2,500. We are required to fill out extra paperwork if there are children involved which is why the retainer is higher. With that fee, however, we pay for the court costs which are usually about $400. We make phone calls, send emails, go to meetings, appear in court and negotiate on your behalf. This makes our services affordable and it helps you know how much out-of-pocket expense to expect for your uncontested divorce.
