Same Sex Relationships

Under Minnesota law, if two people involved in a same-sex relationship have a dispute over custody and/or parenting time involving a minor child, the Court has the authority to address issues of legal custody, physical custody, parenting time and child support.

While family law allows courts to consider issues involving children, in the event there are property issues involved, such as homestead or bank accounts, a separate civil proceeding must be commenced to address the financial issues.
